1 CAT AGAINST THE WHOLE FLOCK

On a day unmarked by fate, Jacob encountered some "Unexpected Visitors" . What was a random encounter has soon escalated into an intense standoff.

Jacob's human filmed the bizarre scene and posted it on Threads, where others quickly identified the birds as "Yellow-crested Cockatoo" - wild parrots that live in Hong Kong and are considered a globally threatened species. Seeing more than a dozen at once is incredibly lucky.

Despite of being severely out-numbered, Jacob has demonstrated extreme dominance over the flock with his laser shaped glaze. It seems that Jacob has successfully tamed them.

Inspired by his talent, we invited Jacob to join the CATNIP Village and work at the Bird Observation Department as our Parrot Specialist.


Under the great leadership of Jacob, the Yellow-crested Cockatoo shall raised again.

JOKE ASIDE...

The Yellow-Crested Cockatoo is a critically endangered species found in subtropical Hong Kong. While native to Indonesia and East Timor, their presence in Hong Kong has an intriguing origin story. Local history suggests that during World War II, a colonial governor released his pet cockatoos when the Japanese invaded, and these birds became the founders of Hong Kong's wild population.

Today, their descendants thrive in the financial district and urban parks throughout the city. This is particularly significant because wild populations in Indonesia have declined dramatically due to human activity. Hong Kong population has now played a vital role in the species' survival.


Today the Cockatoo in Hong Kong is facing a serious housing crisis. The tree holes where they make their nest are disapearing, threatening their ability to reproduce, says HKU's Dr Astrid Andersson, the founder of @hk_cockatoo_watch

How can you help perserving this species?

As of 10th July, 5% of the "Parrot Gang Collection" proceedings every quarter will be donated to @hk_cockatoo_watch for building more nest boxes for birds across Hong Kong Island. These nest boxes will give the cockatoos safe, comfortable places to live.

THE CALLIGRAPHY DUDE - ALIEN

ALIEN is a well-known Hong Kong-based calligrapher and tattoo artist. He is also the owner of Jacob and the official calligraphy consultant of the CATNIP brand.

I have the honour to start working with him this year to fuse traditional Chinese calligraphy into my illustrations. His work has done the magic to bring my bad ass cat village into life.

Alien is also featured as one of the cat villagers within the CATNIP Village. His bond with Jacob has been continued in the frictional world through my drawing pen.
